December 7, 2019

This Season: During the Christmas season we have a number of special events. First is the Blue Christmas Service on Tuesday, December 10 in the chapel. This is a time to reflect on our losses and remember those who have gone before us. On Sabbath, December 14 the SBJA students will share with us the Christmas story in music and drama. On Christmas Eve, December 24, we will have our traditional candlelight service. These are times that make for great opportunities to invite family and friends to join you for church.

AU Concert Tonight: The Andrews University Wind Symphony will perform its annual holiday concert this evening, December 7 at 8:00 p.m. at the Howard Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $4 to $6. For additional information, call (269) 471-3560 or visit

Art Open House: You are invited to a Nathan Greene Art Studio Christmas Open House on Sunday, December 8 and 15, 2019 at 12-6 PM. The studio is located at 8458 Painter School Road, Berrien Center, MI. Enjoy seeing beautiful work by Nathan and also featuring artist Bonnie Greene Le Blanc and blade smith Daniel Greene.

Blue Christmas: This is a service of comfort for those who have lost loved ones and who find the holiday season a challenge. Please join us on Tuesday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel.

Feast of Lights Concert: Andrews Academy will be presenting the 48th annual Feast of Lights program on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 7:00pm. The community is invited to attend this spectacular night of music, scripture, and drama honoring the King of Kings.   It is an evening of lights, bells, instruments, choral singing, congregational singing, shepherds, a Nativity scene, and the retelling of a glorious Christmas story. Chorale and Orchestra will end the program with four choruses from Handel's Messiah including the Hallelujah chorus at the end. The church sidewalks will be arrayed in Christmas lighting. The program will speak to your hearts of His wondrous love. All are invited to attend this free program held at Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University.

Memorial Service: Member Edna Knox passed away this past week. There will be a memorial service at Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend on December 14. Visitation is at 2:30 p.m. and the service starts at 3:30 p.m. There is more information at

Visitor’s Meal: On Sabbath, December 28 we will have haystacks for our fellowship meal. We need some volunteers on that Sabbath to help get the rice cooker and pressure cooker going and have tables in order. If you are interested and willing to help this month, please let the church office know. We will supply the dry rice and beans, along with chips, but we need help to get the cookers going on Sabbath morning.

Health Expo: We are planning to have a dental clinic along with a health expo and other health-related services on March 1. This will be held at the Century Center here in South Bend. We need to recruit dentists and other health specialists to join us. Talk to your dentist and see if he/she would be interested in partnering with us. We provide the dental chairs, all supplies, and insurance. Dr. Randy Griffin, DDS will be in touch with your dentist if they are willing to participate. Talk to your dentist and let us know.

Kitchen Items: The school kitchen is being cleaned and re-organized and there are many items waiting to be reunited with their owners. There are plates, serving bowls, baking pans, water pitchers, textiles, and other items. Please take a look, and if you recognize any items belonging to you, please take them home. Tables are set up in the Sabbath School hallway.

Recovery: Esther Moody is recovering from a broken foot. She would appreciate cards and calls.

Prayer Requests: Please remember in your prayers—Tim Scharbrough, James Rogers, Carmella Rutkowske, Victoria Sandoval, Lila Hawkins, Connie Fox, Elizabeth Kessner, our marriages, and our young people.

Wood Shop: We would like to start a woodworking ministry using our great woodworking shop here at the church. If you are interested to be part of the woodworking ministry team, or if you would like to come and join for an evening or two, please contact Tom Huntress, our SBJA principal. This is a great ministry and a fun one for anyone interested. You don’t have to be an expert craftsman, just one that enjoys wood or would like to experiment with wood as a craft.

Boxtops for Education: Boxtops is now digital! You can help SBJA earn money by downloading the Boxtops mobile app and scanning your receipts. For more information, go to
